Meet Liz

Welcome!

I’m Liz Portwood, wife to Randy, mother to three grown kiddos and two crazy Jack Russell Terriers. Although my primary focus was art history, I’ve discovered my own love of portrait painting, particularly capturing the personality, spirit, and light of the subject.

I received a BA from Converse College in 1983 in Fine Arts (printmaking and drawing) and French. After an internship at the High Museum of Art, I was fortunate to have a full-time job in the Curatorial department for 10 years, doing research on the permanent collection and assisting with exhibitions and conservation until 1992 when my son was born.  During my time at the High, I completed a Master’s degree in Art History at Emory University.

Now that our three children are older, I am discovering what God has in store for this new season of life. I started painting in 2008 and have relished every moment since! In October 2014, I enjoyed a plein-air painting workshop with French artist and my friend, Jill Steenhuis.  Recently, I took my first painting classes since college from the live model with world-renowned artist Marc Chatov– a real game-changer! My experience in art has given me a passion and an eye for fine portraiture, and I thank God for the opportunity to use them in a new way.

I look forward to getting to know you!
